Vision Systems Solutions

ENSCO was approached by the U.S. Navy in the summer of 2007 about providing a new type of display system that would help to reduce the workload and increase the success rate of P-3 operators assigned to sub hunting missions.

Vision Systems SolutionsThis resulted in ENSCO developing a proto-type Tactical Synthetic Vision System (TSVS) designed to provide enhanced Situational Awareness (SA) to the user by displaying a 3-D image of the terrain and bathymetry (ocean bottom) in an operational area. As with a Synthetic Vision System (SVS), TSVS uses databases to create a visual picture similar to the terrain that a flight crew would see out the window in good weather during daylight and the bathymetry that they would see if the ocean were transparent.

Vision Systems SolutionsThis 3-D display format also lends itself to the presentation of other relevant information that may impact tactical decision making, such as the position of air, surface, and subsurface platforms and their projected movement paths, deployed sensors and their computed sensor coverage envelopes or acoustic propagation paths, communication data link presentations, and deployed weapons and their projected movement paths. The 3-D format also allows the presentation of environmental data such as weather and ocean acoustic environmental information to be displayed for the operator to evaluate. The integration of this information into an existing single display significantly enhances aircrew SA.

This effort established ENSCO as a premier provider of new technology for the NAVAIR community at Patuxent River Naval Air Station in Maryland.

TSVS is a continually evolving product, allowing it to grow and adapt to the changing needs of today’s military and civilian agencies.

The links below provide a more detailed description of our Vision Systems Solutions.

Tactical Synthetic Vision System (TSVS)

Tactical Synthetic Vision System (TSVS)

TSVS is an electronic means to provide the flight crew with a computer-generated image of the external scene topography that is derived from: (1) Aircraft State data (e.g., heading, airspeed, altitude, and attitude), (2) Precision Navigation State data (e.g., position, track, groundspeed), and (3) databases containing information on terrain, obstacles, navigation aids, airspace, and relevant cultural features.

Combined Vision System (CVS)

Combined Vision System (CVS)

CVS supports enhanced SA for safety-of-flight and for tactical decision making during all flight and mission phases. CVS provides operators with the best information available from both systems and overcomes the limitations of Enhanced Vision Systems (EVS) and SVS by fusing the image information from those systems into a single image. The image produced by this unique fusion process portrays a more complete view of the environment around the platform.

Vision System Applications

Vision System Applications

ENSCO’s vision system applications are enhancements to our core products that are based on specific needs identified in a particular warfare or civilian environment. These enhancements are integrated with our highly touted TSVS and/or CVS to tailor the system to meet the user’s needs.
