ENSCO, Inc. has developed a unique software application that performs document data conversion, stores the digitized data in a repository, indexes and catalogs content for search and retrieval, controls access through user permissions, and provides personnel the ability to automate, create and manage metadata.
Known as Metis, this ENSCO software application integrates several commercial-off-the-shelf (COTS) and open source software components together into one, powerful, easy to use program. ENSCO utilizes an efficient, reusable architecture to tie together a MarkLogic® XML server, an entity extractor, a temporal application and Google map software. Designed with an intelligent interface for each of the integrated components, the software allows visualization of search results geographically, textually and temporally. The software is intuitive and written so that users can readily understand how to use the program, which is key to making the software valuable to the end user.
Metis meets a need in the national security arena for a knowledge application that integrates leading edge technologies into a tool that can provide users access to information in real time and allows for content to be stored in a central repository or simply links to the various pockets of information.
Metis brings together an XML server, an entity extractor, a temporal application and Google map software to allow visualization of search results geographically, textually and temporally. This combination of tools gives end users the ability to more effectively research across a wide range of data from a singular source. Metis works the way the analyst thinks, helping him intelligibly forage through the dense cloud of information. As a gatherer of information, the analyst can search, navigate and filter to find critical information.
The three key features of Metis data results – textual, spatial and temporal– allow analysts the opportunity to see corollary relationships within data. For example, when textual data is placed on a map or organized temporally, trends in geographic or time density can emerge. Although Metis currently operates with three essential search features, the application can be customized with additional search tools.
Metis’ intuitive software means it can be immediately accessed without the need for extensive training. Because Metis is executed through the bundling of existing COTS, it is readily accessible to the end user while meeting the intense security requirements of the classified operational environment.
As with all ENSCO products and solutions, our Metis solution represents true ENSCO value – the benefit of four decades of advanced engineering, research and development combined with real-world industry experience. We stand ready to solve your most difficult knowledge discovery and management challenges.
